First Trillionaire of India

Mukesh first to be trillionaire in India

Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani is now the only trillionaire in the country. A sharp surge in the share prices of his group companies has helped him cross the landmark.

The combined market capitalisation of the four Mukesh Ambani-group companies — RIL, Reliance Petroleum, Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd and Reliance Industrial Infrastructure Ltd — has crossed the Rs 2,50,000-crore mark. The promoter holding in these companies is over Rs 1,30,000 crore.

Younger brother Anil Ambani is also close to the landmark. He has around Rs 90,000 crore of wealth in the stock market through his holdings in various group companies. The investor wealth in the four Anil Ambani- group firms — Reliance Communications, Reliance Capital, Reliance Energy and Reliance Natural Resources Ltd — has reached Rs 1,42,384 crore, while the total promoter holding is estimated at Rs 87,000 crore.

Mukesh Ambani, based on his direct and indirect holdings in the group companies, is estimated to have control of shares worth Rs 1,11,000 crore. The wealth of the two brothers also includes the value of shares held in the names of their children, wives and holding firms.

5 Digit SMS Code Soon in India !!

India, the world’s fastest growing telecom market has pushed up country's tele-density from 13.09% in April 2006 to 18.7% by the end of April 2007.

The domestic telecom subscriber is undoubtedly growing but to get a correct figure on the key indices like number of additions per month.

The telecom ministry has extended the deadline for making five-digit SMS code mandatory to December 31 from May 31.

The extension is being given to enable telecom companies move over to the new short code services from the existing 4- and 6-digit SMS codes.

According to ministry sources, a communication regarding this was earlier sent by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to telecom service providers.

The Department of Telecommunications is set to issue guidelines for telemarketers in order to check unsolicited commercial calls.

This was after a request by telecom majors, who had sought more time to change their systems and technology to comply with the government order.

Last year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had asked all telecommunication companies to move over to 5-digit SMS code.

The decision to standardise the codes was taken under the National Numbering Plan 2003 issued by the DoT.
